Where did the idea of creating a skin care product using stem cell science come from?
As a stem cell research company, we discovered a new class of "pluripotent" human stem cells ("pluripotent" stem cells can become any cell type in the body). We are using our discoveries and patented technologies to treat a number of incurable diseases such as liver disease, Parkinson’s, blindness and diabetes. During the course of our research for using stem cells to treat regenerative diseases, we discovered the value of stem cell extracts to treat skin aging. And Lifeline stem cell skin care was born.
What is revolutionary about Lifeline’s stem cell technology?
We use non-embryonic human stem cells as a source for our stem cell extract. The stem cells are derived without destroying an embryo. They are the only class of stem cells like this -- derived ethically.
We encapsulate the proteins (peptides, amino acids, enzymes, and growth factors) extracted from these stem cells in a unique way:
1. We use "nanotechnology" -- a way of encapsulating the proteins microscopically, to help them be absorbed through the skin. Many other products have molecules too large to be absorbed, and the product just lays on top of the skin. Lifeline stem cell skin care has been designed to reach the middle layer of skin where collagen and elastin are created.
2. Because we want the stem cel proteins to remain stable -- and not to be released until after they're absorbed by the skin -- we actually encapsulate them in an oily 2-layer sphere.
What is the source of the stem cells?
The stem cells are derived from unfertilized human oocytes (eggs) which are donated to International Stem Cell Corporation from In Vitro Fertilization labs and clinics, such as Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California.
What does this stem cell science imply for beauty care and aging skin?
We believe, and we have the results to prove it, that this extract can improve skin firmness and elasticity, thickness, skin tone and brightness. Fine lines and wrinkles also diminish over time, but the #1 thing we hear from our customers is that their skin looks and feels brighter, more luminous and healthy.
How does the effectiveness of Lifeline compare with products that are based on adult stem cells?
The Lifeline extract is uniquely derived from human non-embryonic stem cells, which are much more potent than adult stem cells. As we age, our stem cells lose their potency. Because these human stem cells are more potent, they are more effective.
What is the difference between Lifeline and skin creams based on plant stem cells?
Lifeline Skin Care features concentrated growth factors, peptides, amino acids, and enzymes from human non-embryonic stem cells. The stem cells are not synthetic, and they’re not derived from apples, melons, or any other plant-based material. Lifeline uniquely uses the same human stem cells that are active early in life to create new, young skin. These stem cell extracts help replace aged, damaged skin cells with new, healthy skin cells. We haven’t seen clinical studies to support or prove that human skin responds or relates to plant stem cells.
How do growth factors help repair damaged skin cells?
Collagen and elastin are the growth factors that play the most important role in the regulation of cell growth, proliferation, differentiation and renewal of damaged skin. As more collagen and elastin are produced, they cause more new skin cells to be produced.
Lifeline Skin Care has been shown in clinical studies to have a positive effect on collagen and elastin. In a laboratory study, Lifeline stem cell extracts:
- Boosted elastin by 46%
- Increased collagen A1 by 42% and collagen A2 by 55%
What is the future of stem cells for 10, 20 or 50 years from now? What is around the corner now?
Just around the corner are more “autologous” treatments, where the cells used to treat an individual are taken from the same individual. This is expensive and unscalable, but avoids the cells being rejected by the immune system.
Non-embryonic human stem cells avoid the immune rejection problem completely by a unique genetic idiosyncrasy related to the fact they are all female. Our parent company, International Stem Cell Corporation, believes this will give non-embryonic stem cell-based therapies a huge advantage, but it will take at least 5-10 years to commercialize.
About Lifeline Products, Ingredients and Testing
Do you offer free samples of Lifeline anti aging products?
We offer free samples of Lifeline Recovery Night Moisture Serum. If you would like to receive a sample, send an email to email@example.com, giving us your name and mailing address.
To learn about special offers, new products and promotions, sign up for our e-newsletter at the top of this page.
Do the products have to be refrigerated?
No. The active ingredients in the creams have been stabilized to preserve their potency. Further, the creams are packaged in airless packaging to protect the creams from oxidation.
Lifeline products are called cosmeceuticals. Do these products need/have FDA approval?
While the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act does not recognize the term "cosmeceutical," the skin care industry uses this word to refer to cosmetic products that have drug-like benefits.
The Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act defines drugs as those products that cure, treat, mitigate or prevent disease or that affect the structure or function of the human body. While drugs are subject to an intensive review and approval process by FDA, cosmetics and cosmeceuticals are not governed by the FDA prior to sale.
Are your products tested on animals?
Lifeline Skin Care does not, and never will, test on animals.
Do your products contain parabens?
Lifeline products are paraben-free.
Are your products fragranced?
The products do not contain any artificial or added fragrance.
Are the products gluten-free?
We have confirmed that none of the ingredients were derived from gluten.
What’s the difference between the Day and Night stem cell serums?
Night time anti aging products are designed to activate and stimulate your skin, while day time products calm and protect your skin. Our Recovery Night Moisture Serum has active stem cell extracts to renew and rejuvenate skin cells. Our Defensive Day Moisture Serum also has stem cell extracts in a moisturizing base and includes an SPF to protect your skin.
Are the products organic?
Although there are a number of naturally derived ingredients in the anti aging serums, this is not true for all of the ingredients.
How long do these anti aging products last?
There are 120 pumps in both our Day and Night Serums. If you are applying 3 pumps per day, one bottle will last 40 days. We recommend using our products within 1 year after opening.
Why doesn’t Lifeline make a full range of products — cleansers, toners, moisturizers and sunscreens?
We prefer to concentrate our research and efforts on developing only best-in-class anti aging products. Rinse-off products have limited ability to repair or rejuvenate the skin.
Why does Lifeline Skin Care use only SPF 15 when an SPF 30 should be used to prevent sun damage and premature aging?
Most sunscreens with a high SPF are formulated to remain on the surface of your skin where they block harmful UV rays. This block also acts as a physical barrier to the penetration of key active anti-aging ingredients. We therefore suggest that you wait until the Lifeline anti aging serum is fully absorbed and then apply an SPF 30 or 35 sunscreen to your skin.
Where should I begin? If I can buy only one Lifeline anti aging product, what would you recommend?
Speak with one of our trained Skin Care Specialists at 1-877-764-9707. They’re available between 8 am – 5 pm PST, Monday-Friday.
I use a prescription strength Retin A cream that makes my face dry and irritated. Is it OK for me to use Lifeline products in conjunction with it?
Yes, Lifeline anti aging products will help soothe and repair irritated skin without diminishing the effectiveness of the Retin A.
I want to integrate Lifeline with other products that I am using. What is the correct application order?
As a general rule, it is best to apply products in order from thinnest (lotions) to thickest (creams) .
Are the anti aging stem cell serums suitable for all skin types?
Yes, these serums are suitable for all skin types.
Ideally, when should I start using anti-aging products?
It is always better to start using an anti-aging treatment like Lifeline before any visible signs of aging appear, because prevention is always easier than cure. The aging process becomes apparent at about age 30 — when cellular activity slows, and your skin begins producing less collagen and elastin.
What if I get an adverse or allergic skin reaction to the cream?
Discontinue use and consult your dermatologist.
Should I use a toner? I understand that toners help balance pH levels.
Using a decent toner ensures that all chemicals and residues of dirt and cosmetics are completely removed from your face. Water-based cleansers alone sometimes are not sufficient at this task.
Are Lifeline products suitable for acne?
Yes, the products are non-comedogenic and will not complicate acne or acne-prone skin. In fact, many people have reported that using our products reduces scarring.
Can someone with sunspots on their bald head use Lifeline stem cell skin care products?
Yes. The stem cell creams seem to be particularly helpful in reducing hyperpigmentation. Remember to use the Day serum with SPF on exposed skin during the day. For prolonged or intense UV exposure, apply and re-apply a sunscreen of SPF30 or above throughout the day.
I use topical products for actinic keratoses or other pre-cancerous lesions. Would there be any problems when used in combination with Lifeline’s products?
If you are using prescription products for the treatment of skin conditions, consult with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
Are Lifeline anti aging products safe to use during pregnancy?
There are no contraindications to using our products during pregnancy or while lactating; however, it is always best to consult with your doctor. He/she may want to review the product ingredients which are listed on the packaging.
How long before I see results from Lifeline anti aging products?
Results are visible within minutes. Over time, as your cells begin to renew, the results become even more dramatic. Generally, peak improvement is reached after 6-8 weeks (or two complete cellular renewal cycles) of continuous use.
